Home Remedies For Dry And Brittle Nails

Many ladies wish and fantasize about having beautiful 10/10 nails that they can flaunt by wearing the latest and trendiest nail enamels or going for the latest nail art.

Brittle and weak nails, on the other hand, can wash away your fantasies of flaunting picture-perfect nails. In today's hectic schedule, we may not always have time to go for those pricey manicures, but several home treatments can help you maintain those attractive nails strong and in the form if used regularly.

Brittled nails

The thing is, bestie, there is no magic cure for brittle nails, but you can improve their condition with these easy home remedies.

Proper Diet

Your diet and living habits greatly influence how strong or brittle your nails are. No number of home treatments or manicures will be able to maintain your nails strong if your body isn't getting enough protein, lipids, vitamins, and minerals. Brittle nails can be reduced by eating a nutritious and balanced diet rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E and several B vitamins, folic acid, zinc, iron, calcium, and biotin. Your nails will grow more robust, but you will also see advantages in your skin, hair, and overall health.

Sea Salt mixture

In addition to strengthening brittle nails, sea salt helps soften cuticles and offers a dazzling sheen to your nails. In a small dish of warm water, combine two tablespoons of acceptable grain sea salts with two drops of wheat germ oil, frankincense oil, and a few drops of lemon oil. Soak your nails in this solution for around 10-15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Next, Pat dry and apply hand cream. This method can be repeated three times each week for the best results.

Coconut oil massage

Warm a few teaspoons of coconut oil in your hands. Apply it to your nails and hands, and gently massage it in. Along with strengthening your nails, it will boost your blood circulation and keep your nails wet. Warm coconut oil can also be combined with a few drops of lemon juice. Soak your nails in this mixture for a few minutes before gently massaging them. Wear gloves after the massage and keep them on overnight for the best benefits.

Keep them moisturized

Apply petroleum jelly or a moisturizer lotion to your nails throughout the day. Wear thin cotton gloves after massage with oil at night to reap the most benefits from it. You can also use vinyl gloves when doing dishes or laundry. Nail polish removers with high acetone or formaldehyde concentration are harmful to your nails; instead, use acetate-based removers.

Olive oil and lemon juice infusion

Infuse a teaspoon of olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply little amounts of this mixture to your nails and massage them in. Allow it to sit overnight, and wear soft hand gloves afterwards to protect your nails from water. For best effects, do this at least twice a week.

Nail filing

Hopefully, you'll have a general idea of how to treat your brittle nails and will be able to make your own informed decisions in the future.

You should also get your nails evaluated by a dermatologist once every 3-4 months if you have only noticed mild dryness or not too serious symptoms.

These easy remedies can help you effortlessly maintain your beautiful nails, whether at the weekend or during the week.

Nail Polishes could be toxic to you, here's why!

Nail Polishes could be toxic to you, here's why!

A good ‘ol mani-pedi after a stressful week of juggling tasks at home and at work is always a good idea. It can also be a fun form of self-expression for many. But did you know that some nail polishes are considered harmful and actually silently damage your health? Keep scrolling to find out the most dangerous toxins contained in conventional nail polishes.

The 'Toxic Trio'

When testing nail polishes, most labs mainly look for three chemicals -- dibutyl phthalate, toluene, and formaldehyde -- commonly known as the ''toxic trio." The chemicals have been known for potential health risks, especially for nail salon workers and pregnant women.

The chemical toluene may cause birth defects and developmental problems in children of pregnant women who have had extended exposure. Toluene is usually used in gasoline that fuels our cars. It may harm the central nervous system and can also damage reproductive organs. Other known adverse effects include headaches, numbness and eye and throat irritation.

Dibutyl phthalate adds flexibility to nail paints and also prevents the nail polishes from cracking or turning brittle; however, it can still cause damage to the reproductive tract.  The use of phthalates is banned in certain countries in Europe and is becoming less frequent due to its damaging effects.

A well-known carcinogenic agent is used as a nail hardening ingredient. The long-lasting nail polishes that you love contain formaldehyde in abundance. It is also used as a disinfectant that prevents bacterial contamination.

Rise of toxin-free nail polishes

In 2006, public health advocates began protesting these three harmful compounds; since then, leading nail polish brands have voluntarily removed the "toxic trio" from their products and relabeled their brands with 5-free, 10-free, and even 12-free.

The effects of short-term exposure to the chemicals found in nail polishes remain unclear. Still, many brands have taken a step further and even created water-based nail polish and vegan ones.
